Procedures

    

Preliminary Exam:

  • Discuss with owner/rider any concerns or questions they may have or any problems their horse may be experiencing.
  • Check overall appearance and condition of horse
  • Check for abnormalities
  • Check the symmetry of horse's skull
  • Check TMJs (temporomandibular joints or jaw joints) for reaction.
  • Perform a thorough exam of all teeth and oral cavity.
  • Formulate a treatment plan for the horse and discuss with owner/rider.

Incisors:           

  • Realign and reduce to restore and improve molar occlusion as needed.
  • Check for and extract retained deciduous teeth (caps) or cap fragments.
  • Check for abnormalities

Canines:          

  • Check for tissue impacted canines and elevate as needed.
  • Reduce and float as needed.
  • Check for abnormalities.

Wolf Teeth:      

  • Check for and extract wolf teeth in all four quadrants.
  • Check for tissue impacted wolf teeth and extract as needed.
  • Check for and extract wolf tooth fragments.

Cheek Teeth:  

  • Equilibrate and remove sharp points from all cheek teeth.
  • Balance arcades to improve group molar function.
  • Create Bit Seats.
  • Check for retained deciduous teeth (caps).
  • Check for abnormalities in the oral cavity.
